When a container move makes sense

Two situations we solve every week

Whether you just need a flexible place to keep your things, or you're worried your move could be thrown out by a last-minute settlement change — a containerised move takes the pressure off.

You need cost-effective storage between homes

Selling before buying, building, renovating, downsizing or moving from interstate. Your belongings are loaded once, stored in the container, and delivered when you're ready — no paying a crew to unload into a storage unit and reload it all again later.

You're worried settlement could move

In Queensland, settlement can be pushed out at the last minute (more on that below). If your old home has to be vacant but the keys to the new one aren't ready, your packed-up life can sit safely in a container instead of becoming an emergency.

How it works

One team, from load to redelivery

No juggling a removalist, a storage company and a container carrier. We coordinate the whole thing.

1. We load

Our crew wraps, protects and professionally loads your belongings straight into the container at your property.

2. We transport

Our own container truck collects the loaded container and brings it back to our depot — no separate carrier to organise.

3. We store securely

The sealed container is stored at our secure depot for as long as you need — days or months.

4. We redeliver

When your new place is ready, we bring the container back and our crew unloads and places everything where it belongs.

Because your goods stay in the container they're loaded into, a container move can reduce unnecessary unloading and reloading — where access and operations allow.

Why settlement-day flexibility matters in Queensland

Your moving plan shouldn't collapse just because settlement moves

The 5-business-day extension, in plain English

Many commonly used Queensland REIQ residential contracts include standard condition 6.2. Subject to the actual contract and valid notice, this provision may allow either the buyer or the seller to move the settlement date to a date no later than five business days after the scheduled settlement date.

In short, under those contracts:

  • notice to extend may potentially be given as late as 4pm on the settlement date;
  • more than one notice may be issued, but the total extension cannot go beyond five business days after the scheduled date;
  • the clause is mainly there to absorb last-minute bank or third-party delays, and a reason generally isn't required;
  • it concerns settlement — it does not automatically extend finance, building-and-pest or other contract dates.

It's a sensible protection. It also means the date circled on your calendar isn't always as fixed as it feels — which is exactly why having your belongings in a container that can simply wait a few days takes the pressure off moving day. Read more about standard condition 6.2.

General information only. This is not legal advice. Contract terms and individual circumstances vary. Confirm your rights and obligations with your solicitor or conveyancer before making settlement or moving arrangements.

A practical alternative

Fewer transfers than a move plus self-storage

With a traditional move into separate storage, your furniture can be handled several times over. A containerised move is designed to cut out the middle steps.

Traditional move + separate self-storage

  • 1 Removal truck is loaded at your home
  • 2 Everything is unloaded into a storage unit
  • 3 Later, it's loaded into a truck again
  • 4 Then unloaded at the new home
  • + You may be coordinating several providers
The Jacaranda way

Jacaranda containerised move

  • Belongings are professionally loaded into a container
  • The loaded container is transported to secure storage
  • The same container is later delivered, where suitable
  • One team coordinates removal, storage & redelivery
  • May reduce unnecessary transfers and handling

We say "may" and "where suitable" on purpose — the right approach depends on your access, volume and timing. We'll always talk you through what's practical for your move.

Who it's for

Built for moves where timing is uncertain

Settlement delays

A safety net for when the keys to the new place aren't ready on the day you have to be out.

Sold, still looking

You've sold but haven't secured the next home yet — store your life until you land the right place.

Renovations & rebuilds

Get the furniture safely out of the way while the work happens, then back in when it's done.

Delayed handover

New build or off-the-plan running late? Hold everything in storage rather than rushing.

Downsizing

Take your time sorting what stays and what goes, without a hard deadline hanging over you.

Interstate & staged moves

Coming or going in stages — store now, deliver when the timing lines up.

The gear to handle the whole move

An uncommon set-up among local removalists

Plenty of companies can do one part — a removal, a storage unit, or a container drop. Having the trucks, the containers, the forklift and the crew under one roof is far less common among small-to-mid local removalists, and it's what lets us manage your move end to end.

  • Container-capable trucks for collection & delivery
  • Forklift and equipment to handle containers safely
  • 20ft shipping containers — roughly 30m³ each
  • Secure storage at our depot
  • Experienced household & commercial removal crews
  • Insured (conditions apply), locally owned & operated

How much fits in a container?

A standard 20ft shipping container offers roughly 30 cubic metres of space. How much of your home fits depends on item sizes, packing quality and the shape of the load OWNER TO CONFIRM: typical home size per container, e.g. "around a 2–3 bedroom home". For bigger homes we may suggest more than one container, or a quick assessment first.

Is a container move right for your place?

We'd rather be upfront. A containerised move is a great fit for many homes, but a few practical things can affect what's possible — so it's worth a quick chat about:

Truck access & positioning — room for our container truck to get in, turn and park safely.

Driveway & road width — narrow or steep access, tight corners or low-clearance spots.

Overhead clearance — powerlines, trees or awnings near the drop or pickup point.

Ground & gradient — soft ground or a sloping site can affect safe handling.

Volume of goods — whether one container is enough, or you'd be better with two.

Storage duration — a few days, a few months, or open-ended — all fine, just tell us.

Not sure how your property stacks up? Tell us a bit about it and we'll let you know honestly whether a container move is the best option for you.

What it costs

A clear quote, built around your move

Every move is different, so we price it properly rather than guessing. Your quote may include:

Removal crew & loading time to wrap, protect and load your container.

Container transport to and from our secure depot.

Storage for the period you need, short or long term.

Redelivery & unloading when your new place is ready.

Packing & unpacking if you'd like it — optional.

Any access or specialist needs we flag together up front.

The most cost-effective option depends on your volume, access, travel distance and how long you store. OWNER TO CONFIRM: add indicative "from $XX/week storage" & any minimum period, or leave as by-quote

First contacted Kira — she explained everything in detail, sent a quote that day and booked the move in. They turned up on time and worked hard to make the pick-up as easy as possible. Stored our furniture over the long weekend and delivered to our new address on the Tuesday, on time again. All furniture was in perfect condition and we were kept in the loop the whole time. A special thanks to Thomas and Carter — would recommend this company to anyone. A very professional service on all levels.

Kira was amazing, she assisted my booking with quick turnaround time with quote and booking in the truck in short notice. The boys turn up on time and got the job done in just two trips helping me to move out from a 5 bedroom home. They were not only fast — they were friendly and easy going.

Container removals & storage FAQs

What happens if my settlement is delayed?
Your belongings can stay safely in their container at our depot until your new place is ready. Instead of scrambling for emergency storage, we simply redeliver once you have access — so a settlement that slips by a few days doesn't derail your whole move.
Can you collect my furniture even if I can't get into the new property yet?
Yes — that's exactly what the container service is built for. We load and take your belongings on the day you need to be out, store the container securely, and deliver when access to the new property is sorted.
Will my belongings stay in the same container?
In most cases, yes. Because your goods are stored in the container itself, they generally stay sealed in from pickup right through to redelivery — with no unloading into a storage unit and reloading later. OWNER TO CONFIRM: is the same container always allocated to the customer?
Can the container be left at my house?
Our containers are stored at our secure depot. Leaving a container on site can sometimes be possible, but it depends on access, ground conditions and council rules. OWNER TO CONFIRM: do you offer on-site container placement, and where?
Can I access my belongings while they're in storage?
Often yes, with a bit of notice so we can position the container for you. OWNER TO CONFIRM: access arrangements & notice required while goods are stored
How long can I store for?
From just a few days bridging a settlement gap, through to longer-term storage while you build or renovate. Tell us your rough timeframe and we'll tailor the plan. OWNER TO CONFIRM: minimum storage period, if any
How much does a container move and storage cost?
It depends on your volume, access, travel distance and how long you store. We'll give you a clear, no-obligation quote covering loading, transport, storage and redelivery. The quickest way is to send your details or call 0438 273 869.
Are my belongings insured while moving and in storage?
Your move and storage is insured, though conditions apply, and we treat your belongings with care from the first box to the last. See our Terms & Insurance page for the detail. OWNER TO CONFIRM: storage cover & any value limits while in the depot
What areas do you cover?
Brisbane and the Gold Coast are home base, and we cover suburbs right across both. For larger jobs we travel further afield and work with trusted partners for interstate relocations.
Do you provide packing as well?
Yes. Our crew can wrap and pack your home with quality materials before loading, and unpack at the other end, so fragile things are protected for the whole journey and the wait in storage.
